THE WALL MURAL COMPETITION

Wall murals are an excellent way to express creativity while also contributing to the beautification of public spaces. They provide a platform for artists to showcase their talents, and they also serve as a form of communication for the communities in which they are displayed. 

Muumba Collective and Nzani Creative Hub aim to bring together artists from diverse backgrounds to create wall murals that promote community inclusion, celebrate the unique culture of Africa, and raise awareness about the importance of recycling in the community. We will provide a space for artists to design, create and showcase their works, with a specific focus on female artists. The participating artists will receive guidance from their peers and established artists on their designs over the 3 weeks of the competition.

Muumba Collective was founded with the belief that female East African artists are underrepresented and face unique challenges in the industry. We aim to address this inequality by offering various resources and opportunities to female artists, including mentorship programs, collaborative networking, and career development opportunities.

Muumba collective is currently running an artist feature campaign on their instagram to connect artists to a wider audience while providing art materials to featured artists.

Nzani Creative Hub aims to identify, amplify creatives. We aim to promote authentic African products and voice, to spur growth among the community. Nzani Creative Hub provides a space, training and platform to local artisans to design, test and sell their work. 

The competition will be open to artists of ages 18 to 35 years and all backgrounds. Participants will be required to submit a sketch of their proposed mural along with a brief explanation of how it relates to the themes of community inclusion, Little Africa, and recycling. The murals will be created on designated walls in public spaces, and the winners will be chosen based on creativity, originality, and relevance to the themes.

• To create a community of artists that can work, collaborate, guide, and inspire each other and the Kamwokya community.
• To provide mentorship opportunities for emerging artists to grow and develop their talent with guidance from Experienced artists in Uganda.
• To promote community inclusion by encouraging artists from different backgrounds to collaborate and create murals that reflect the diversity of the community.
• To celebrate the rich culture of Africa by incorporating elements of African heritage and traditions in the murals and provide a platform for artists to showcase their creativity and talent.
• To raise awareness about the importance of recycling and inspire people to adopt sustainable practices in their daily lives.
• To beautify public spaces with colorful and meaningful murals that bring joy and inspiration to community members.
• To provide a platform for spaces within the Kampala City Council for art to be exhibited.
